Jon Cryer will not pay $88,000 a month in child support

Most people in Denver, Colorado, and the rest of the country can’t imagine paying or receiving $8,000 a month in child support – let alone $88,000. However, that is what Jon Cryer’s ex-wife asked a family law court for during a recent child support hearing. Cryer, who is best known for his role in the television series, “Two and a Half Men,” and his ex-wife were divorced in 2004 and have a 13-year-old son.

The woman claims that her son has been ridiculed because she isn’t able to throw expensive parties or take him on vacation to exotic locales like the teen’s wealthy friends can. She also maintains that she is due the increase because she now has the teen for 50 percent of the time, instead of 4 percent of the time like she did in the past.

Cryer fought the child support modification request, and the judge sided with the actor. The judge ruled that the increase wasn’t mandated because there was not a change in the couple’s circumstances to warrant it.

It doesn’t take massive child support payments to result in a request for a child support modification hearing. These hearings may be requested when there is a change in circumstances, either with the custodial or non-custodial parent. A loss of a job is a common reason for requesting an increase or decrease in child support.

An experienced Colorado family law attorney may help those who are interested in such a hearing learn more about their options and possible outcomes regarding a change in child support.
