Michael Moore and his wife of 21 years will be heading into divorce court. Michael filed for divorce on June 17 and according to court filing, have joint property that will need to be divided by the court. According to the Antrim County, Michigan, property records, part of that property is a home located in Torch Lake and is worth $1.2 million alone. For Colorado residents, this case is an example of how a high-asset divorce can play out in the media and be viewed across the country.

Michael Moore, best known for his filmmaking of such liberal movies as Capitalism: A Love Story and Fahrenheit 9/11, has reportedly hired a top-notch legal team in order to protect his assets and earnings. Past projects of his have not just been limited to movies, but also books that have hit the best seller list.

He also sued The Weinstein Company for $2.7 million for what he said he was owned for making Fahrenheit 9/11, but the case was settled privately. There are some websites that report his net worth at $50 million. If that’s the case, there is likely going to be a lot of alimony headed towards his wife’s way, although she is a film producer herself and has worked with Michael on several of his films.

The couple has no children and as of yet, his wife, Glynn, has not responded to the divorce filing yet.

While this divorce will play out in the news, most Colorado divorces will not. That does mean those divorces will be any easier. If you are considering a divorce, speak with an experienced Colorado divorce attorney. Your lawyer can help you with important matters such as property division, spousal maintenance, child support, child custody and visitation. Don’t feel as though you have transverse this difficult time in your life alone.
