Nicolas Cage arrested for domestic violence

On Behalf of | Apr 18, 2011 | Domestic Violence

Domestic violence can happen anywhere at almost any time, including in Colorado as we discussed last week. Although it may be uncharacteristic of someone to act violent toward another individual, certain circumstances can ignite anger or rage in a person. Whether sparked by a specific event or some level of intoxication, domestic violence is a serious issue that is not to be taken lightly.

Recently, actor Nicolas Cage was arrested on a number of charges, including domestic abuse battery. According to police, he was extremely intoxicated on Friday night when he and his wife got into an argument. The “Raising Arizona” star was reportedly attempting to enter a home he thought the couple was renting. His wife said that was not the right residence.

Police say Cage became enraged and grabbed his wife by the arm to pull her toward the house he believed they were renting. People who witnessed Cage’s violent behavior called the police. He reportedly continued to be violent by hitting nearby vehicles.

When police arrived at the scene, they instructed Cage to exit a taxi he had gotten into. Police reported that Cage was visibly drunk and began to yell. He was taken into custody, but was eventually released on bond. Along with domestic abuse, the actor faces charges of disturbing the peace and public drunkenness.

No one was seriously injured in this incident, but that is not always the case. Often there are no witnesses to call the police during a domestic dispute. It is important that victims of domestic violence know that there are ways to protect themselves from an abuser. Both temporary and permanent restraining orders can be issued to protect individuals.
