Healthy ways to deal with divorce anxiety

On Behalf of | Jul 1, 2023 | Divorce

A marital breakup is an emotional event that can have an effect on all aspects of a person’s life. Even when divorce is warranted and the best decision, painful emotions will inevitably arise. Many Colorado residents who go through divorce experience high levels of worry or anxiety. While this is common and completely normal, here are a few helpful ways to deal with divorce anxiety.

Exercise

Exercise is one of the best ways to cope with anxiety. Anxiety often goes beyond thoughts and feelings and may impact a person’s physical body. When feelings of anxiety arise, try incorporating physical movement. Exercising doesn’t have to be intense. Light stretching or taking a walk are great ways to release pent-up energy.

Get outside

Understandably, many people who are going through a divorce want nothing more than to isolate themselves and stay in bed all day. However, getting outside in nature is one of the best ways to alleviate anxiety. Spending time outdoors can be grounding and incredibly peaceful. This can be something as simple as sitting on the beach or taking a walk through a park.

Seek support

No one should try to go through a divorce alone. Lean on close friends and family members for support. Activities such as going out to eat or a movie with friends can be healthy forms of distraction. Seeking the support of an experienced legal professional can prove invaluable during this time. Any person in Colorado who has questions or is heading for a divorce can get the guidance and assistance they need by speaking with a knowledgeable and empathetic family law attorney.
