DUI defense: Police continue to combat drunk driving

On Behalf of | Sep 9, 2020 | Criminal Defense

Driving while under the influence of alcohol is a very serious problem that continues to plague not only the state of Colorado, but the entire country. Recent statistics say that one person dies every 48 minutes in accidents caused by drunk driving in the United States. Because of these dangers, police forces across the country go to great lengths to combat drunk driving, which can make DUI defense very difficult. But those who have been charged still have options at their disposal.

Police forces in Colorado are continuing to crack down on drunk driving. The Colorado State Patrol says they are seeing increased localized travel this summer as more people take advantage of state and local parks. The CSP encourages all Colorado residents to enjoy parks throughout the state, but to do so safely and responsibly.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, nearly 900 drivers were arrested for DUI during Labor Day weekend last year. This year, police are ramping up patrols and they have noticed some reckless behaviors, according to one officer with the CSP. With families traveling together and so many vehicles sharing roadways, it is more important than ever to drive responsibly, the officer noted.

Being arrested and charged with a DUI can lead to many sleepless nights filled with stress and anxiety. Also, a DUI charge can do irreversible damage to a person’s reputation. However, a charge is not a conviction. Those in Colorado who have been charged with a DUI should know they have options available for DUI defense, such as the right to seek legal representation. A knowledgeable and skilled litigator can determine a strategy to achieve the best possible outcome and safeguard personal rights.
