Don't fall into these negative habits in a custody situation

Child custody battles can be difficult to handle. Not only do you have to think about what is best for your children, but you also have to deal with the emotions that come with these situations. There are several ways that you might be able to make the situation easier for you and your children. Making sure that you don't fall into these habits might be beneficial.

Don't change the parenting time schedule. Not only can frequent changes cause stress for the children, but they can also show the court that you aren't really interested in actually parenting your kids. You should also make sure that you show up on time for the child exchanges. Being late can make it seem like you don't care.

Don't ever try to skip out on court orders. If you are ordered to take parenting classes, take them. The same is true for counseling and anything else the court tells you to do. Most of these activities can benefit you and the children if you take them seriously. One thing that you should do that the court might not explicitly order is remaining sober. Drinking or doing drugs around your children can have a negative impact on the custody case.

Don't have the children involved in the case. They don't need to know everything the adults are doing. By sharing too much with them, you can actually make them more worried than they already are.

Finally, don't try to bash your ex just so you can have your way. Always be fully truthful with your statements. Trying to exaggerate things can mean that you come across as spiteful, which will work against you in the custody proceedings.
