Your decisions now can profoundly impact your future

In our previous blog post, we discussed some of the considerations that you have to think about when you are dividing property in a divorce. This wasn't a comprehensive list, but it is a good starting point. We know that you might have a lot of concerns about what you are going to end up with at the end of the day.

As you move through the divorce process, you have to think about how each decision will impact you right away, as well as in the future. You can't let wanting to get back at your ex for the things he or she did get in your way when you deal with how property is divided. Now is the time to put yourself first and let the chips fall where they may.

Another consideration that you have to think about when you are going through the divorce is getting it all handled in a timely manner. You don't want to drag things out longer than what you have to. If the divorce does take longer than necessary, you are taking time away from your new life.

If you have children, you do have to put them first. This can be difficult, especially if you are trying to think about them during the property division process. For example, if you want to keep them in the home they know now, you might try to hang onto the home at all costs. But, what happens if you can't keep up with payments, maintenance and upkeep on the home? This question is one of the main things that you have to consider. You don't want to end up with a property division settlement that does more harm than good.
