For most people, the idea of $15,000 a month in child support is simply unfathomable. However, for celebrities, including professional athletes, this amount of child support isn’t as uncommon. One Los Angeles Dodger player, though, is fighting a $10,000 a month increase in child support.
The professional baseball player, Carl Crawford, is the father of two children with his ex. The children are 9 years old and 5 months old. Currently, Crawford pays his ex $5,000 a month a month in child support. According to court papers, though, she believes this is not enough to raise the two children. She has asked the court for an increase to $15,000 a month.
In October of last year, the woman moved to California. Crawford allegedly believes that this was done in order for her to use the state’s child support laws to her advantage. She claims, however, that she simply moved so that the children would be much closer to Crawford.
Most child support cases do not involve amounts as high as those above. However, that doesn’t mean that such child support cases — including those in Colorado — are any less important. Child support is meant to be paid to and used for the children of separated parents. Unfortunately, some non-custodial parents are unable or unwilling to meet their child support obligations. In some cases, the court may need to get involved in order for a parent with custody to see the payments each month. In these cases, legal representation may be needed in order to have the best chance at receiving the child support that is due.
