Drunk man to be charged with domestic violence, DUI, among others

Anyone who is a victim of domestic violence should always attempt to seek help as soon as possible. A Colorado Springs woman did just that last week, and after she did, the man who allegedly assaulted her stole her car and fled from police before crashing it. He now faces a slew of charges.

The 26-year-old woman apparently called police last Wednesday afternoon after a domestic violence incident at her home. She apparently advised deputies not to call her back and hung up the phone.

According to sources, when police arrived at the Colorado Springs residence a few minutes later, the 29-year-old man reportedly refused to get out of a car on the property, a PT Cruiser. It was apparently evident that he was drunk. He then allegedly drove off down the highway at speeds up to 80 m.p.h. At that point, deputies apparently gave up following him.

Their decision was wise: the man crashed the stolen Cruiser into another vehicle shortly thereafter, near the entrance to the Colorado Springs Airport. He and the other driver were both injured and taken to a local hospital.

A photo posted to the Colorado Connection website shows the accident scene. The stolen car's front end is completely crumpled. It was not clear what his injuries were.

Upon his release from the hospital, the man will be greeted with several charges, including DUI, harassment, domestic violence/third-degree assault, motor vehicle theft, vehicular assault and vehicular eluding. Perhaps his case will serve as an example to others that domestic violence is never okay - and always has consequences.
