Plan carefully when divorcing a narcissist

On Behalf of | Aug 31, 2017 | Divorce

Narcissistic people are difficult to deal with. In some ways, they take every situation as a challenge or a contest. When you are married to a narcissist, you might have learned how to deal with this superior attitude. What you might not realize is that you are going to have to reevaluate your strategy if you opt to end your marriage to the narcissist.

There are several things that you can do to make the situation a bit easier for you. One of these is to go into each meeting prepared for what might come. There is a good chance that your ex is going to try to run the show. While you can’t do much about that, you can control your reaction to these antics.

You should be prepared for a difficult battle. A narcissist is going to try to always have the upper hand. They don’t mind having to push everything to the limits. Your ex might try to push you into a corner about matters. He or she might demand a trial. If these occur, you should be prepared to handle the situation head-on.

Another thing that you should do is be prepared for the narcissist to impact your life in a negative way at every opportunity. For example, he or she might try to drag the case out so that you incur more expense than what is truly necessary. You should try to plan for this so that you are able to stand firm in the areas that matter. You won’t feel forced to let the other party have his or her way due to financial constraints.

You need to do what you feel is best for you. Make sure that you take the time necessary to learn about what options you have and how you can handle situations.
