Dolphins player Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson is an example of how the effects of domestic violence can go beyond physical and emotional trauma. They can also cost someone their job.
After a head-butting incident with his newlywed wife over the weekend, the football player and reality star was released from his contract with the Dolphins. The team announced on its website on Sunday that Johnson, who had played one preseason game with the team, was terminated. No official reason was given for his firing, however.
Johnson had been arrested over the weekend for the incident with his wife, who was a cast member of the reality show “Basketball Wives.” It apparently started when Johnson noticed a receipt with a charge for a box of condoms. The couple began to argue, and the disagreement apparently became heated.
Johnson’s wife, whom he wed just early last month, says that he grabbed her and head-butted her, causing a three-inch laceration on her forehead. When he wouldn’t stop yelling, she apparently became frightened and ran to a neighbor’s house.
Police later found Johnson at his home and arrested him. He posted bond the day of his arrest He told officers that his wife was the one who head-butted him. He apparently did not have any marks or bruises that were visible.
Johnson and his wife are already attached to star in an upcoming reality show about their marriage. It’s not clear if the show will still air.
