Unfortunately, domestic violence affects many people across the country, including some in Colorado. Domestic violence occurs when an individual is violent or has threatened to be violent toward someone they are or have been in an intimate relationship with. In recent Denver case, a woman was stabbed to death outside her apartment home in what police believe to be an act of domestic violence.
According to Denver police, a man and a woman began arguing just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in a unit of a local apartment building. When the argument took a violent turn, the woman reportedly tried to leave the building, but the man followed her. Police say the man chased after her and then stabbed her in the street.
Officers found the woman lying in the road. She was taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment but was pronounced dead soon after. Police arrested the man who allegedly stabbed her.
Police found two children in the apartment. They have been taken into protective custody.
This situation illustrates the potentially tragic results of domestic violence. When people find themselves in a bad relationship, it can be difficult for them to get out. They may feel trapped or that they will be harmed if they try to leave.
Fortunately, certain steps can be taken to help prevent acts of domestic violence. Restraining orders have been designed to protect an individual from being harmed by another person. Both temporary and permanent restraining orders can be issued to individuals who fear that someone they know will hurt them.
